Hispanics in Nursing The National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN) is profiling Hispanic nurses in a new radio campaign -- Carreras en Enfermería / Hispanics in Nursing -- to spark the interest of persons looking for rewarding and fulfilling career opportunities to grow professionally as a nurse.

Andrea Valdez
Andrea Valdez is originally from Guatemala and recently graduated from Phoenix College. When she started college she was pursuing a degree in business, but after giving birth to her daughter she decided to change the trajectory of her education. She was going through a difficult period in her life, but she felt safe and secure when giving birth, all because of the actions of a nurse. Andrea recalls telling her mother that if one day she became a nurse, she would be happy the rest of her life. That moments put her on the path to a career in nursing.
Out of the 3,000,000 registered nurses in the U.S., Hispanics represent only 3.6% even though Hispanics make up 17% of the U.S. population. Many Hispanic students and parents are not aware of the multiple opportunities that exist in the nursing fields.
