Maria Curbelo is from Chandler, Arizona and recently graduated from Mesa Community College. Her husband recommended a career in nursing but she felt her understanding of science was weak for a career in nursing. After doing some investigating on her own, she realized that nursing was a career that gave her an opportunity to help others, while utilizing her skillset. Maria realized that she was putting up barriers that did not exist. She chose to look deep inside herself and stop what she calls “stinking thinking” or giving in to negative thoughts. Her advice for students would be to get get their hands dirty by volunteering. Being able to get a real-life look at nursing and it’s many rewards helped her focus and stay motivated. With hard work and dedication Maria was able to tackle her science courses and much more.
