Carlos Becerra
Carlos Becerra is attending the Nursing Program at DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois. Originally he was in the pre-med program but while at a hospital he saw what registered nurses do. He got excited about nursing when he realized that it is truly about patient care and very hands-on work. Carlos credits his grandmother, who was a nurse in Mexico, as the person that sparked his interest in medicine, math and science. Having been raised in Mexico, becoming fluent in English was his first obstacle while in college. Later when he got accepted into a Master Program, he faced the daunting task of figuring out how to pay his tuition. He decided to spend three and half years working to save money before starting the program. In the end it was all worth it because he is able to live out his dream. If you have a love for medicine and speak Spanish, Carlos suggest that you consider a career in nursing.
